Sea sickness can completely ruin

Sea/Motion Sickness (back)

Sea sickness can completely ruin your trip. After spending your money on a charter, it would be terrible if you spent your entire trip leaning over the side of the boat feeding the fishes. On the other side, if you take the wrong remedy you can spend your trip so tired that you don't feel like fishing.

If you know you have a motion sickness problem, you should take medicine. Most require to be taken 4 to 8 hours before you get on the boat, I'll cover that later.

If your not prone to motion sickness, you should still follow these tips:
• First, don't eat to much before your trip, this includes the night before, and avoid greasy foods.
• Don't drink alcohol the night before, or keep it to a minimum.
If you are on the boat and start feeling sea sick you can do the following:
• Stay out of the cabin and keep an eye on the horizon, you don't have to constantly stair at it, but keep it in sight.
• Stay on the deck of the boat, the higher you are off the water, the more motion you will feel.
• Don't think about it, I know it's hard, but the more you focus on it, the better chance you'll have feeding fish.

I thought for sure I was going to get sick on my trip. I went for 3 days 2 nights, that's the longest I've been on a boat. I've been on rough seas before but that was many years ago. There were a few times I thought I was going to loose it but I followed those guidelines and had no problems, but that's me, everyone is different.

If you don't know how you'll react to the motion of a boat but don't want to take medicine, you can take some "Smooth Sailing" along with you just in case. Smooth Sailing is a ginger drink that works good at calming your stomach.

If you know you have a problem you should take medicine before you get on the boat. If you don't know how your going to react, you should consult a doctor. The common drug for many years was Dramamine but that can leave you so drowsy you can't fish or enjoy yourself. Scopolamine is probably the best but you'll need a prescription for it. If you want to just buy something over the counter I've heard very good things about Bonine, It doesn't cause the drowsiness of Dramamine but will give you the relief you need.

There are many remedies, best thing to do is consult your doctor.
